A standard tripod screw mount is fitted, but the tripod itself, which we consider something of a necessity, has to be purchased separately.

Accuracy of ±⅛ inch over 100 feet is on par with what you’d find on much more expensive devices. The rotation speed is fixed at 600 rpm. Indoor range is 100 feet, and an outdoor range of 1,600 feet is possible using the laser receiver.

Rotation is fixed at 600 rpm, though this is relatively common among rotary lasers for outdoor use.

Dust and water protection is excellent at IP66. The Spectra Precision LL300N-2 has been drop tested to 3 feet for free fall on concrete, and 5 feet if the tripod is knocked over. Battery life is also impressive, with four D-cell batteries providing up to 90 hours of runtime. Purchase includes a rechargeable battery (NiMH) as an option. To find any kind of rotary laser level at this price is something of a surprise. To find that it includes red-tinted glasses, a target, laser receiver, remote control, rechargeable battery, and charger gives it great value. Unfortunately, it does not include a tripod, though a standard thread is fitted.

This Iglobalbuy Electronic Self-Leveling Rotary Laser Level offers rotational speeds of 60, 120, 300, and 600 rpm. It can be used indoors and out, and it has a range of up to 1,650 feet. It is also self-leveling, although instructions are not as clear as they could be.

Accuracy does let this level down a little. It is quoted as ±20 inches horizontal or vertical. Some quick math gives an equivalent of approximately 1¼ inch at 100 feet. So while it isn’t a device for high precision, it can still help with many jobs around the house and yard.

The Johnson 99-006K is a very good, general-purpose rotary laser level. It will satisfy the needs of many different users and is comparatively inexpensive. That said, it doesn’t have as high a protection rating for harsh environments as our best outdoor laser level, the Spectra Precision LL500l. The Huepar is a great value, bringing rotary laser levels within the budget of DIY enthusiasts. However, buyers will need to pay extra for a tripod.
