Police said suggestion racing may have taken place in area ‘all forms part of the investigation’

olice said they are investigating whether racing had taken place before a horrific crash which killed a woman and left a Range Rover flipped onto the line at Park Royal Tube station.

The Range Rover left the road and smashed through fences and stationary Tesla cars before “skidding” along a waiting room roof and landing on the Piccadilly Line just before 4am on Monday.

A woman, 33, believed to be an occupant of the Range Rover, died at the scene, while a 23-year-old man remains critically ill.

A third Range Rover occupant, a 26-year-old woman, is not thought to be in a life-threatening condition at this stage, said police.

A man, 56, believed to have been inside a Tesla that was parked at a charging station was treated for “non life-threatening” injuries.

On Tuesday evening, police launched a fresh appeal for witnesses or footage of the moments before the smash.

Detective Sergeant Jim Hinchliffe said: “I am aware of the extensive coverage in the media and online.

“I would remind media and members of the public that this remains a live investigation and we continue to investigate the full circumstances of the collision.

“I appreciate there is much speculation around the circumstances, including whether there had been racing in the area beforehand, and all of this forms part of the investigation.”

One of the investigating officers, Detective Constable Ben Simpson, said it was “imperative” that any witnesses or those who had dash cam, CCTV or doorbell footage of the moments before the collision to make immediate contact.

“A person has died and another remains critically ill in hospital and we need the public’s help to build our picture of what has happened here,” he said.

Andrew Wood, 61, who lives in the flats above the station said: “I was asleep but then heard an almighty bang. And then a car siren going off.

“I thought it was someone breaking into the garages at the back but it must have been the car on the track.

“Then all hell broke loose with police cars and helicopters swarming around.”
