A TWENTY-four-week prison sentence had been given to a man who attempted to steal a £1,444 bike.

Paulo Dejesus-Gomez, 33, of Cottesmore Road, Oxford, tried to steal the bike from on November 21 last year.

The court heard the theft had a “degree of planning” and he attempted to steal the bike in Oxford using an angle grinder.

He was sentenced at Oxfordshire Magistrates' Court to serve 20 weeks in prison as the “offence was so serious”.

Another four weeks was added to his sentence for causing distress while using threatening, abusive and insulting words towards another person on the same day.

He was using “racially and religiously aggravated” language.

Dejesus-Gomez was also ordered to pay £108 worth of court costs for the theft and an additional £75 for the harassment.
