Professional Tool Reviews for Pros

Compact cordless vacuums are great for working around the jobsite, but you normally have to give up performance for convenience. The Hilti Nuron 2-gallon cordless wet dry vacuum (VC 140-2-22) offers a breath of fresh air with higher suction than we’re used to seeing from such a compact form factor.

The big deal for the Hilti VC 140-2-22 is that we have performance and size colliding in a convenient way. Prior to OSHA updating the respirable silica dust exposure limits and creating Table 1 compliance, we didn’t have to think much about the numbers. Now we have a standard, and Hilti’s 140 CFM have you covered for concrete grinding applications up to 5 inches.

Of course, it’s good for far more than just concrete applications. As a wet dry vacuum with 2.47 PSI, it’s a versatile vac by nature. There are a couple of features that make you even more productive. Automatic filter cleaning keeps your suction high so you have to stop less often. There’s also an available Bluetooth remote you can use to turn the vacuum on or off without having to do it manually.

Then there’s the size. The VC 140-20-22 has a 2-gallon capacity (1 gallon wet) with a footprint of 8.5 x 13.8 x 15.7 inches. Bare, it weighs 13 pounds and is easy to carry from one spot to the next. Since it uses a single Nuron battery for power, you can mitigate some of the weight concerns.

With applications such as concrete drilling when you’re moving around more, there’s a backpack harness available. With it, you can worry more about drilling and less about positioning and moving the vacuum as you go.

The Hilti VC 140-2-22 starts at $454 for the bare tool and you can build it out with any batteries or chargers you need. If you’d like the backpack harness, it runs $105 and the Bluetooth remote control set is $50. It’s compatible with all Hilti Nuron batteries. Here’s a breakdown:

As usual, Hilti backs this grinder with its 20-2-1 warranty program.
