Bosch Angle Grinder Recall Due to Risk of Burns

Professional Tool Reviews for Pros

There is a Bosch angle grinder recall from the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) that affects small angle grinders including the Bosch 1380 slim 4.5-inch angle grinder with date codes 502 through 511. You can see if your unit is affected by looking for the model number and date codes on the name plate located on the bottom of the angle grinder. These small angle grinders are colored blue and silver with a black label and they feature black and red control buttons.

Bosch and the CPSC has received four reports of the Bosch 1380 slim grinders overheating, but there have been no injuries reported as of this writing. Basically, it’s possible the grinder could overheat while in use, which would cause the brush covers to melt and expose the end of the brush holder. Obviously, this could pose a risk of burns to anyone using the tool.

If you have one of these Bosch power tools that fall under the Bosch angle grinder recall, you should stop using the grinder immediately and contact Bosch to obtain a free repair. These angle grinders were sold at Lowe’s, Menards, The Home Depot, and other home improvement hardware stores nationwide. They were also sold online at Amazon.com, HomeDepot.com, Lowes.com, and Menards.com from March 2015 through November 2015. The retail pricing was between $50 and $200—the difference being in the type of kit or combination pack purchased with the tool.

For a remedy to the Bosch angle grinder recall you can contact Robert Bosch Tool at 844-552-6724 Monday through Friday between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. CT to schedule a free repair of the tool.
