Professional Tool Reviews for Pros

For quick fixes and projects around the house, a glue gun is one tool you want to have around. We’re taking a closer look at the Hart 20V cordless glue gun to help you decide if it’s worth cutting the cord on such a handy tool.

While corded glue guns often kick on as soon as you plug them in, that’s not the case with a cordless model. You can safely insert the battery without heating it. When you’re ready to start heating, slide the switch next to the trigger to the on position and a red LED on top lets you know it’s active.

As far as heat-up time goes, it takes about 3-1/2 minutes to get up to temp, comparable to corded models you might have used.

One of the things we really like about Hart’s design is the two-finger trigger. Glue guns use pressure from the trigger to manually push the glue stick forward. Being able to use two fingers instead of one spreads the effort out and is really helpful if your hand strength isn’t what it used to be.

Containing drips and avoiding burns is a concern with glue guns and we really like Hart’s self-standing capability. Rather than resting on a kickstand that angles the nose downward at a hard angle and does little to prevent dripping, the Hart HGPL01 uses its 20V battery as a support to stand on.

There’s still a little bit of dripping so there’s wisdom in putting a paper towel under the nose to protect your work surface. The drippage here isn’t as bad as some of the glue guns we’ve used since the nose pointing down at as great an angle.

Of course, it’s the cordless convenience that takes the cake in the end. Ditching the power cord helps as you maneuver around your project and lets you take the tool to wherever the work is no matter if you have a power source there or not.

You can pick up this Hart glue gun at your local Walmart or online. It comes with 3 full-size glue sticks and a 3-year warranty for $29.88. There’s no kit option, so you’ll need a battery and charger to go with it. If you don’t already have those, there are a ton of other great tool kits and combos to get you started in the system, or you can pick them up separately.

When he doesn't have his hands on tools himself, Chris is often the man behind the camera lens making the rest of the team look good. In his free time, you might find Chris with his nose jammed in a book, or tearing out his remaining hair while watching Liverpool FC. He enjoys his faith, family, friends, and the Oxford comma.
